Type locality: originally given, erroneously, as Martinique.

Type species: Amphisbaena caeca is the type species of the genus Typhloblanus FITZINGER 1843, now a synonym of Amphisbaena. 
EtymologyNamed after Latin caecus (also coecus) = blind, invisible.
