Type locality: Brazil: Alagoas: Planta Hidroelectrica de Xingo, Bajo Rio San Francisco, left side.

TypesHolotype: MZUSP 79433. Paratypes: MZUSP 79434–79490 (57 specimens), same data as the holotype; MZUSP 79419–79432 (14 specimens), right side of the river, Sergipe. 
DiagnosisDIAGNOSIS: Very slender. Preanal pores cicatricial, usually 4, rarely 2, 5 or 6. Body annuli 225-247, tail annuli 20-26. Autotomy level not apparent in the intact tail, breaks on annuli 6-10. Segments to a midbody annulus 12-16/16-20. No major fusions of head scales. Prefrontals the largest scales on top of the head. Parietals veiy variable, irregular. Three upper and three lower labials, in both cases the second by far the largest. (Vanzolini 1996) 
CommentMorphology: This species is one of ~20 species of Amphisbaena with two precloacal pores (Ribeiro et al. 2019). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin lumbricus = earthworm, based on the similarity to earthworms and their fossorial life style.
