Etymology | Named after Latin “brevis, -e” = short and “rostrum” = beak, proboscis, trunk. A. b. wetmorei was named after "Frank" Alexander Wetmore (1886-1978), American ornithologist and avian paleontologist. A. b. deserticola is apparently named after its habitat in arid areas, from Latin desertum = waste place, wilderness, also the Sahara Desert. |
