Etymology | Unclear. Cocteau (in de la Sagra) gives only a cryptic explanation: “Nomen nobis pergratum, nec physiologiae alienum, species haec consecrat.” which may be loosely translate as “A name pleasing to us, not an unusual physiology, consecrates this species.” (K. de Queiroz, pers. comm., 22 Oct 2024). |
