Species group: Anolis loysianus species group (fide NICHOLSON et al. 2012).

History: the authors are not DUMÉRIL & BIBRON 1837 as often cited, but rather Cocteau 1836, see de Queiroz (2022) for details. 
EtymologyUnclear. Cocteau (in de la Sagra) gives only a cryptic explanation: “Nomen nobis pergratum, nec physiologiae alienum, species haec consecrat.” which may be loosely translate as “A name pleasing to us, not an unusual physiology, consecrates this species.” (K. de Queiroz, pers. comm., 22 Oct 2024).
