Anolis paternus paternus: Isla de la Juventud. Type locality: Vicinity of Nueva Gerona, Isla de la Juventud, Cuba.

pinarensis: western Cuba. Tera typica: 5 km from Ciudad Sandino, Guane, Pinar del Río province, Cuba.

Species group: Anolis angusticeps species group (fide NICHOLSON et al. 2012). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin pater = father, paternus = of a father, honoring the father of the author, Jerry D. Hardy, Sr., “a devoted naturalist and teacher of natural history.” Eponym.

Anolis paternus pinarensis was named after its type locality.
