attenuatus: Panama, Costa Rica; Type locality: Isla Bonita, southeastern slope of Volcán Póas, Costa Rica, elevation 5500 ft.

DiagnosisDiagnosis: “A fair-sized (head and body 72 mm.) Anolis with keeled imbricate dorsals in an ill-defined zone composed of the eight median rows of largest scales; laterals keeled or tuberculate scarcely imbricate; ventrals larger than dorsals, heavily keeled, slightly mueronate; longest toe reaches eye; tibia as long as head to ear; ear opening smaller than eye; two scales between semicircles; occipital smaller than ear; a broad, irregular, light dorsal band; resembles capito, but has different dorsals and a longer head.” (Dunn 1940)

CommentSubspecies: Anolis woodi attenuatus has been elevated to species status by FITCH et al (1976) but considered as synonym of Norops woodi by KÖHLER 2000.

EtymologyNamed after W. C. Wood who may have been an official in the Panama Canal Zone.
