Diagnosis
CommentSynonymy partly after PETERS & OREJAS-MIRANDA 1970. The lectotype of Anolis bourgeaei belongs to Norops laeviventris and the Paralectotype to Norops sericeus. Anolis bourgeaei is therefore a junior synonym of N. laeviventris (KÖHLER 2001). According to BAUER et al. 1995: 58 N. laeviventris includes N. intermedius. A. nannodes is not listed in LINER 1994 and listed as synonym of Anolis intermedius by BOULENGER 1885. A. nannodes is a synonym of Norops laeviventris fide KÖHLER 2000. Poe (2016) considers the diagnostic characters suggested by Köhler as insufficient to distinguish between A. laeviventris and kreutzi. Anolis ustus veraepacis has also been synonymized with Anolis lemurinus bourgeaei (Stuart 1955).

Distribution: not in Panama fide Batista et al. 2015. A. intermedius is not in Costa Rica fide Bolaños (pers. comm.), nor in Panama (fide S. Lotzkat, pers. comm, 23 Dec 2015). A. laeviventris not in Yucatan state (Mexico) according to GONZÁLEZ-SÁNCHEZ et al. 2017.

Species group: Norops auratus Species Group (fide Nicholson et al. 2012).

NCBI taxonID: 323583 [intermedius]
EtymologyNamed after Latin levis, smooth, smoothed, not rough + Latin ventris, stomach, womb; belly. [“...squamis... abdominalibus sublaevibus...”].
