Type locality: Quebrada San Lorenzo, tributary of the Rio Arquía near the small town of Belén (6° 15’N 76° 39’W), about 10 to 15 km upstream from the junction of the Rio Arquía with the Rio Atrato, western Antioquia, Colombia.

CommentSpecies group: Dactyloa latifrons species group (NICHOLSON et al. 2012). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin macula, spot, stain and Latin gula, throat, neck, gullet [“...Chin mottled with orange, blue and gray, the blue predominant...”]. (from Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., May 2024)
