Species group: Norops auratus Species Group (fide Nicholson et al. 2012). Other authors have stated that A. vociferans belongs to the pentaprion group which includes seven species: fungosus, ibague, ortonii, pentaprion, sulcifrons, utilensis, and vociferans. 
EtymologyNamed after Osbert Salvin (1835-1898), a prodigiously productive British naturalist and co-editor of the Biologia Centrali-Americana, who collected extensively in Guatemala and elswhere.

A. vocerifans was named after the Latin “vocifer” = “to cry aloud”, in allusion to the squeaking noises made by specimens when they are first captured.
