Type locality: Limestone uplands at Ojo de Agua, Cinco Pesos, about 9 km NW San Cristóbal, Pinar del Rio Province, Cuba.

CommentSynonymy: The genus Chamaeleolis was synonymized with Anolis by Hass et al. (1993). INCERTAE SEDIS: Specimens from Sierra de Trinidad and Villa Clara Province show relationships to this species but represent as yet unnamed taxa (fide SCHWARTZ & HENDERSON 1991).

EtymologyNamed after Latin barbatus = bearded, after the beard-like scales on the chin of this species.
