Species group: Dactyloa latifrons species group (NICHOLSON et al. 2012). Prates et al. 2019 redefined the latifrons series as follows: The largest crown clade includes A. latifrons and excludes A. aequatorialis, A. heterodermus, A. nasofrontalis, A. punctatus, and A. roquet. 
EtymologyNamed after New Latin latus (= "broad") and frōns (= "forehead, front"). It is a reference to broad forehead and/or the pronounced ridges on the forehead of the species.
