A. l. hassleri was named after W. F. Hassler who described Anolis luteogularis with G. K. Noble.

A. l. jaumei was named in honor of MIGUEL JAUME, director of the Museo Felipe Poey, long-time friend of both authors, and outstanding Cuban malacologist.

A. l. nivevultus was named after Latin "niveus" (snowy, white as snow) and "vultus" (countenance), in allusion to the extensively white face.
