Type locality: Mexico: 10 mi SE San Cristobal, Las Casas, Chiapas

TypesHolotype: INHS (= UIMNH) 73899; W. Burley, J. Fawcett, and T. Fritts; August 2, 1967. 
DiagnosisDiagnosis: Ventral scales large, strongly keeled, much larger than dorsals; 8-12 rows of enlarged dorsals, merging gradually with granular laterals; normally 36-52 paravertebral dorsals between axilla and groin levels; small groups of enlarged scales scattered throughout laterals; supraorbital semicircles in contact medially or separated by one row of small scales; head scales weakly keeled, somewhat rugose; postanals enlarged in males; 15-17 lamellae under second and third phalanges of fourth toe; dewlap bright pink; maximum snout-vent length 47 mm.

CommentSynonymy: Poe et al. 2017 stated that anisolepis is not a valid species (without discussing its synonymy) while Hofmann & Townsend 2017 confirmed its validity.

Species group: Norops auratus Species Group (fide Nicholson et al. 2012) 
EtymologyNamed after Greek anisos (ἄνισος), unequal, uneven + Greek lepis (λεπίς), a scale. [“...heavily keeled ventrals and scattered enlarged scales among the granular laterals...”].
