Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy: Fitch & Seigel 1984 and Köhler 2001 consider Anolis rhombifer as a synonym of A. lemurinus. Therefore not listed by KÖHLER 2000 or Sunyer et al. 2014. Anolis lemurinus bourgeaei has been treated as full species by some authors. Not listed for El Salvador by KÖHLER (2000).

EtymologyNamed after Latin Lemur, genus of Primates Strepsirrhini from Madagascar due to Linnaeus, 1758 (from Latin lemur, malevolent ghosts of the dead, specters, shades) and Latin -inus, suffix indicating possession, belonging to, pertaining to, having the nature of, made of, quality of, state or condition of. [“...Head short, broad, front concave, eyes very large...”]. (from Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., May 2024)
