CommentSynonymy partly after Peters et al. 1970 and Donoso-Barros 1968. Norops albi is listed as valid species by NICHOLSON 2002. BOULENGER (1885) considered A. tropidogaster as doubtful. A. radulinus is a synonym of A. tropidogaster, fide F. Castro (pers. comm., 24 July 2017). Several recent authors consider radulinus as a nomen dubium, hence we treat it as a synonym for the time being.

Distribution: Not listed for Ecuador by TORRES-CARVAJAL 2001. The original type locality, New Grenada, used to be part of a republic that contained the territory of today’s Colombia and Panama as well as small portions of what is today Ecuador and Venezuela (Aguilera Peña 2002). The Truando region may correspond to a place in Darien, Panama (fide GÜNTHER 1885: 52)

Species group: Norops auratus Species Group (fide Nicholson et al. 2012)
EtymologyNamed after Greek tropizo (τροπίζω), furnish with a keel + Greek gastir (γαστήρ), abdomen. ["...scales upon abdomen strongly carinated...”].  (from Esteban Lavilla, pers. comm., May 2024)
