Type locality: Hill in front of the house of A. Suárez, La Poa, Sabanilla, Baracoa, Guantánamo Province, Cuba.

Species group: Anolis alutaceus species group (fide NICHOLSON et al. 2012). 
EtymologyNamed after Anfiloquio (Rubio) Suárez, from Baracoa, “enthusiastic and tireless collector and lover of our wildlife.”
