Diagnosis | Diagnosis: Allied to Anolis porcatus and Anolis smaragdinus from which two species it differs in possessing larger dorsal and temporal scales; it differs from both also in coloration [Barbour & Shreve 1935: 357].

Comment | Synonymy: Reynolds et al. 2018 found A. fairchildi to nest within A. porcatus. However, they refrained from synonymized fairchildi with porcatus, pending further study. Note that Poe et al. 2017 found fairchildi to be genetically quite different from A. porcatus with A. smaragdinus as sister species (see their Fig. 2, top).

Etymology | Named after Dr. David Grandison Fairchild (1869-1954), a botanist and explorer after whom the botanical gardens in Coral Gables, Florida, were named. |
