Species group: Norops sagrei species group (fide NICHOLSON et al. 2012). 
EtymologyNamed after Dr. Aristides Mestre y Hevia (1865-1952), a physician, biologist, and anthropologist who workedat the Montane Anthropological Museum, Universidad de La Habana, Cuba (1903).
