Type locality: Roche Croix, Massif de la Hotte, about 5000 ft., Département de la Grand'Anse, Haiti.

Species group: Deiroptyx hendersoni species group (fide NICHOLSON et al. 2012). 
EtymologyNamed after Dr. Philip Jackson Darlington Jr. (1904-1983), an evolutionary biologist, zoogeographer, and beetle taxonomist.
