Type locality: Topes de Collantes, Sierra de Trinidad, Sancti Spiritus Province, Cuba.

CommentSpecies group: Norops sagrei species group (fide NICHOLSON et al. 2012).

Abundance: only known from the type specimen (Meiri et al. 2017). 
EtymologyNamed after Marcelo S. de la Fuente, an Argentine herpetological paleontologist. He was at Museo de La Plata, Universidad de la Plata (1995), and now is a member of the Museo de Historia Natural, San Rafael, Mendoza Province, Argentina.
