Diagnosis | DESCRIPTION: Size moderate (SVL in males to 82 mm, in females to 60 mm); 6-8 rows of loreals; scales between supraorbitals 0; 2-3 scales between interparietal and supraorbital semicircles; 5 postrostrals; 5 postmentals; suboculars in contact with supralabials; supradigital scales multicarinate; dorsals small, granular, 2 mid-dorsal rows enlarged, bluntly tectiform; ventrals tectiform or keeled anteriorly (chest), smooth posteriorly. Dorsum (metachrosis from darker to lighter, not brown-green) brown to gray; laterodorsal trunk and neck boldly patterned with near-white to yellow spots and marblings that coalesce to form stripes as well as isolated spots of darker pigment ventrolaterally; a dark bar or blotch on each side of sacrum, set off posteriorly by pale (ashy or tan) border; females similar but mid- dorsal stripe irregularly edged, often fragmented, in weak contrast to bold laterodorsal pattern; venter yellowish; chin tricolored with bold, reticulate, or barred pattern of near-black to gray or lighter blue-gray with egg-shell white to creamy blotches; in males, chin pattern extends onto anterior dewlap, in females to level of eye; dewlap deep crimson with green center and white to gray scales, anterior 30° of extended dewlap boldly reticulate with slate- and blue-gray and cream-white (Schwartz & Henderson 1991: 258). |
