Diagnosis | DESCRIPTION: Size moderate (SVL in males to 57 mm, in females to 49 mm); 4-6 rows of loreals; scales between supraorbitals 0-1 (strongly modally 0); 1-3 (mode 2) scales between interparietal and supraorbital semicircles; 0-1 (mode 1) scales between suboculars and supralabials; 3-5 postrostrals; 2-5 postmentals; dorsals small, granular, flattened; median dorsals not abruptly enlarged; supradigital scales multicarinate; ventrals much larger than dorsals, smooth, cycloid; tail compressed, verticillate, 4 median dorsals/verticil. Dorsum medium brown; flank stripe poorly indicated or absent; dumbbells in males poorly expressed at their lateral expansions, rarely complete across dorsum; a black postocular blotch invariably present; venter cream to tannish; throat white to grayish, lineate black in females; dewlap basically red but at times with pink marbling, or basally dark reddish with a red or orange-red suffusion peripherally, or rich red streaked with black, or purplish to bluish centrally; females with edge of vestigial dewlap distinctly red to reddish (Schwartz & Henderson 1991: 296). |
