Type locality: San Pedro, 45 km north of Medellín, Departamento Antioquia, Colombia, 2560 m elevation.

Diagnosis 
CommentHas been treated previously as synonym of Anolis antonii, but is now considered as a valid species (fide Ayala & Williams 1988)

Species group: Norops auratus Species Group (fide Nicholson et al. 2012) 
EtymologyNamed after Brother Niceforo Maria (1888-1980), a French monk and collector of the type, and Brother Apolinar Maria (1877-1949) a missionary Colombian monk who was Director of Instituto de La Salle, Bogota.
