|Diagnosis||DESCRIPTION: Size large (SVL 160 mm in male); snout scales between second|
canthals 6-8; 610real rows; scales between supraorbitals 2; 2 scales between inter- parietal and supraorbital semicircles; 7 postrostrals; 6 postmentals; suboculars not in contact with supralabials; head scales swollen, keeled; frontal depression deep, bounded by ridges; supraorbital semicircle scales smooth, flat; limb and supra-digital scales keeled; scales under base of tail smooth, scales on sides of base of tail small, quadrate, arranged in regular, vertical rows; no enlarged postanals; tail fin very high. Dorsum brownish gray with 2 light lines on each side, 1 from groin, other from shoulder; a distinct, light temporal spot; eyelids yellow; dewlap gray, except that the posteroventral one-quarter is light yellow; tail yellowish brown; venter whitish (Schwartz & Henderson 1991: 327).

Conservation: Anolis roosevelti is the only species of anole thought to have gone extinct in historical times, at least it has not been seen since 1932. The species is known from only 8 specimens. No photos of live specimens seem to exist (Losos in Anole Annals).
Species group: Xiphosurus cuvieri species group (fide NICHOLSON et al. 2012).
