Type locality: Villa Nova (= Senhor do Bonfim), Bahia, Brazil.

DiagnosisFor diagnostic morphological characters distinguishing Marinussaurus, Amapasaurus, Anotosaura, Arthrosaura, Colobosauroides, Dryadosaura,Ecpleopus, Kaieteurosaurus, Leposoma, and Pantepuisaurus see Table 2 in PELOSO et al. 2011. See also Dixon 1973: 9, who compares the genera Anotosaura, Heterodactylus, and Bachia (Table 2). 
CommentSubspecies: Anotosaura collaris vanzolinia (DIXON 1974) is now considered as a valid species.

Type species: Anotosaura collaris AMARAL 1933 is the type species of the genus Anotosaura AMARAL 1933.

Abundance: very rare; only a few specimens are known (Rodrigues et al. 2013).
