(1996) based on: (1) Mertens (1939) relegating A. expectatus to subspecific status without comment; (2) differences in size, proportions, pattern, and scalation (see original description of Cochran [1933]); (3) the hiatus between Navassa Island and the main island of Hispaniola, effectively precluding gene exchange; and (4) comments in Powell (1993). |
Etymology | Named after Latin exspectatio (= to expect), presumably in reference to “Dr. Noble’s prediction that a related form [of Aristelliger] might be expected to occur in Haiti” (Cochran 1933). |
