CommentSynonymy: Elevated to species status by Powell et al. (1996) based on: (1) Mertens (1939) relegating A. expectatus to subspecific status without comment; (2) differences in size, proportions, pattern, and scalation (see original description of Cochran [1933]); (3) the hiatus between Navassa Island and the main island of Hispaniola, effectively precluding gene exchange; and (4) comments in Powell (1993).
