Diagnosis | DESCRIPTION: Size small (SVL in males to 50 mm, in females to 46 mm); lateral postmentals 1/2-3/4 as wide as first infralabial and in contact on midline; fourth finger lamellae 15-19; fourth toe lamellae 14-24; "friction pads" on 3 fingers and 2 outer toes. Dorsal pattern in adults develops from a "ladder" which fades with maturity but is usually visible; dorsum gray to brown, a series of 8 dark crossbands (typical of juveniles) separating pale gray rhombs, at times present but irregular and represented by transverse spots or streaks of brown or white; lateral band (continuations of black dorsal bands) brown, somewhat reddish, lateral light bands buff; sides barred with reddish brown and buff, may become flecked or streaked with white; tail banded yellowish to dark brown; hatchlings dark brown with 8 pale gray, saddle-shaped areas, feebly edged with white from occiput to tail; tail very dark brown with series of dorsal saddles continued on tail as white rings (from Schwartz & Henderson 1991: 358). |
