Diagnosis	DESCRIPTION: Size small (SVL in males to 63 mm, in females to 53 mm); lateral postmentals 1/2-3/4 as wide as first infralabial, in contact with midline of mental; fourth finger lamellae 16-22; fourth toe lamellae 17-26; "friction pads" on 3 fingers and 2 outer toes. Dorsal pattern develops from juvenile dorsal "ladder"; dorsum tan, gray, yellow-brown to brown, with 6 wide, tan crossbands; dark stripe bordered with light margin from snout, across eyes, to sacrum in male and to shoulder in female; tail with about 9 narrow, dark crossbands, followed by light bands of same width; underside of tail dark (males), white (females); juvenile (SVL 20 mm) with 7 pinkish diamonds between neck and sacrum, 10 on tail; dark stripe from snout crossing eye and then broken to outline diamonds; general juvenile appearance decidedly checkered in contrast to "striped" adults; iris brown (from Schwartz & Henderson 1991: 360).
Comment	Illustrations: Grant, 1931; Cochran, 1941; Thomas, 1966. Synonymy: WILLIAMS 1976 synonymized Anolis cochranae WILLIAMS 1961 with Anolis semilineatus. Subspecies: Aristelliger cochranae expectatus COCHRAN, 1933 has been elevated to species status by POWELL (1996).
Etymology	This name honors the late Doris M. Cochran, Division of Herpetology at the United States National Museum from 1919 to her retirement in 1968. She was officially given the titles Assistant Curator in 1927, Associate Curator in 1942, and Curator in 1956 (Adler, 1989).
