Type locality: San José Island, Gulf of California, Baja California.  
ReproductionOviparous. 
TypesNeotype: CAS 52555, designated by Slevin and Leviton 1956 (Verticaria sericea); the holotype CAS 435 was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and fire.

CommentBelongs to the Aspidoscelis deppii group (fide REEDER et al. 2002). 
EtymologyNamed after May Danheim Burt, a fellow herpetologist of her husband, Dr. Charles Earle Burt (1904-1963), an Amerian herpetologist and business man.
