mazatlanensis: Mexico (Sinaloa); Type locality: 2 miles north of Coyotitan, Sinaloa, Mexico;

nigrigularis: Mexico (Sinaloa); Type locality: 10.5 miles NW of Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico;

zweifeli: Mexico (Michoacan); Type locality: Mexico, Michoacan, Capirio, 185 m elevation.

Diagnosis 
CommentMay be synonymous with Cnemidophorus sackii. LINER (1994) listed Cnemidophorus alpinus as valid species. Subspecies after LINER 1994. 
EtymologyPresumably named after the dorsal and lateral black (or dark) spots, from Latin “costa” = rib.

Aspidoscelis costatus barrancorum was named after the barranca region of Sonora and Chihuahua.
