Type locality: “Cerros Island”, Pacific coast, Baja California.

DiagnosisDiagnosis. Nasal in contact with second supralabial; postnasal and first supralabial not in contact; two large preanals, the largest behind ; dorsal scales equal; nostril anterior to nasal suture; eight longitudinal rows of ventral plates; femoral pores twelve to thirteen; fronto-parietals distinct; supraoculars four; caudal scales slightly oblique. (Stejneger 1890)

EtymologyNamed after Latin labialis, pertaining to the lips. [“...As will be seen from an enumeration of the characters bywhich it differs from them all, viz: the peculiar relations of the nasals and anterior labials...”].
