Synonymy: The validity of Atractaspis corpulenta leucura is questionable (RÖDEL & MAHSBERG 2000).

EtymologyNamed after Latin corpulentus = fleshy, fat.

A. c. kivuensis was named after the Kivu region in the DRC.

A. c. leucura was apparently named after Greek leuco (λευκο), white + Greek oura (ουρα), tail.
