Synonymy: For a discussion see Largen and Rasmussen (1993). Atractaspis microlepidota micropholis has been raised to species status. Atractaspis phillipsi has been removed from the synonymy of A. microlepidota and raised to full species status by BROADLEY 1994.

Morphology: The venom glands of Atractaspis microlepidota are extremely elongate, extending under the skin for about 15% of the body length behind the head.

Distribution: Pitman 1974 also reported this species from Uganda. Has been erroneously listed for Benin but does not occur there (Hughes 2013). LARGEN & RASMUSSEN 1993 reported this species from Ethiopia. Dobiey & Vogel show it in their map for W Mali but Trape & Mané 2017 claim that no records are known from there. 
EtymologyNamed after Greek mikros (= small) + lepidotos (= scaled), referring to the relatively small scales.
