DiagnosisDiagnosis: Atractus insipidus can be distinguished from all congeners by the following combination of characters (data between brackets are those of Roze, 1961): (1) smooth dorsal scale rows 15/15/15; (2) postoculars two; (3) loreal long; (4) temporals 1 + 2; (5) supralabials seven, third and fourth contacting orbit; (6) infralabials seven, first four contacting chin shields; (7) maxillary teeth seven; (8) gular scale rows three; (9) preventrals three; (10) ventrals 157 in the single male; (11) subcaudals 34 [36] in the single male; (12) in preservation, dorsum light brown with irregular dark brown spots concentrated on vertebral and paravertebral regions; (13) in preservation, venter immaculate cream; (14) body size small in male, 206 mm SVL [205]; (15) tail moderate in male (13.6% [14.6] SVL); (16) hemipenis moderately bilobed and semi-calyculate [PASSOS et al. 2013].
