DistributionPeru (Junin)

Type locality: Huachon, east of Cerra de Pasco, Dep. de Junín, Peru, 10,000 ft elevation.
TypesHolotype: MCZ 45909
DiagnosisDiagnosis. An Atractus close to bocourti and pauciscutatus, differing in having ventrals 157-158 in females, thus significantly separated from bocourti with ventrals 170-182 in females, on the one hand, and from pauciscutatus with ventrals 146 in the same sex on the other; differing from both in having the under side of the tail entirely or nearly entirely black, and from pauciscutatus in having the frontal as long as its distance from the end of the snout, instead of as long as its distance from the internasals [from SCHMIDT & WALKER 1943].
EtymologyNamed after the black underside of the tail (Latin “niger, nigra, nigrum” = black and Latin “cauda” = tail). Note that cauda is a noun in apposition, hence it is -cauda, not -caudus as in most previous publications (see also Böhme and Denzer 2019).
