Diagnosis 
CommentSynonymy: This species has been synonymized with Atractus elaps by SAVAGE 1960 but revalidated by DIXON et al. 1976.

EtymologyNamed after Professor Eduard Friedrich Poeppig (1798-1868), a German naturalist and collector.
