DiagnosisDiagnosis: Basiliscus galeritus lacks a well-defined crista tuberalis, a character difficult to evaluate and rather subjective. It was therefore not included in the analysis. Maturana (1962) listed various autapomorphies for this species such as a midorsal scale row consisting of three small scales followed by a single enlarged scale. (Lang 1989)

Distribution: not recorded from Costa Rica although Lang 1989 reported this species from Costa Rica, apparently in error (Savage 2002: 430). See map in Lang 1989: 124, 130. 
EtymologyAfter Latin “galeritus”, meaning wearing a hood.
