CommentSynonymy after DUMÉRIL, BIBRON & DUMÉRIL 1854. Current status and name unclear. DUMÉRIL et al. state that the species “vit au Cap de Bonne-Espérance”.

May belong to the genus Boaedon as redefined by KELLY et al. 2011. 
EtymologyProbably named after the stripes on the side of the head and body of the species, which Schlegel called a “beautiful species”, without further explaining the etymology.
