Type locality: Bihen, Somaliland, 08°25'N, 48°25'E, 1500 ft elevation.

TypesHolotype: BMNH 1931.7.20.393, a 250 mm female (R.H. R. Taylor, 10 March 1930).

CommentAbundance: rare; only 2 young specimen were known until Lanza 1978 found additional specimens.

Distribution: not in East Africa (S. Spawls, pers. comm., 28 June 2018) despite reports from Kenya, Tanzania (Hughes 1997). 
EtymologyNamed after Latin maculatus, from Latin maculus, spotted; polluted; tainted.
