Etymology | “We are pleased to name this new species in honor of Carlos Polestico Garcia. Born on Bohol Island, Carlos P. Garcia later became the eighth President of the Philippines. He was the first Philippine president to be laid to rest in the Libingan ng mga Bayani, or Cemetery of the Heroes, located within Fort Bonifacio in Manila, Philippines. The municipality of Carlos P. Garcia, and type locality for Brachymeles libayani, was named after this Philippine hero. The word ‘‘libayani’’ is derived from the phrase Libingan ng mga Bayani.” [SILER et al. 2011]. |
