Type species: Brachyophis revoili MOCQUARD 1888: 125 is the type species of the genus Brachyophis MOCQUARD 1888. Phylogenetics: see Portillo et al. 2018 for a phylogenetic analysis of members of Aparallactinae, inlcuding members of Brachyophis. Subspecies: The former subspecies Brachyophis revoili cornii SCORTECCI 1932 and Brachyophis revoili krameri LANZA 1966 are now considered as valid species. Distribution: not in East Africa (S. Spawls, pers. comm., 28 June 2018). |
Etymology | Named after the collector of the type, Georges Révoil. The genus was named after Greek brachys (βραχύς), short + Greek ophis (ὄφις), snake. [“…Le corps est remarquablement court…”]. |
