Diagnosis

Conservation: Critically endangered (HILTON-TAYLOR 2000).

Habitat: montane fynbos. 
EtymologyNamed after Gr.: tainia > L. taenia = band; .bronchos, trachea; -us/a/um, adjectival suffix: band-throated, denoting the “oblong jet-black marks on the throat” or “guttere faciis nigris maculato” according to Smith 1831:17) (Charles Klaver, pers. comm., 11 Jan 2023).
