CommentSynonymy partly after WERMUTH 1967. According to KÄSTLE et al. (in SCHLEICH & KÄSTLE 2002: 93), Calotes jerdoni was listed erroneously from Tibet (figure G on plate 23 in ZHAO & ADLER 1993 shows Oriotiaris tricarinata but not Calotes jerdoni as the figure caption says), but has been reported from Yunnan (Zhao et al, 1999; Yang and Rao, 2008).

Group: The Calotes jerdoni complex has been defined as the species (jerdoni, maria, medogensis) that have two parallel rows of conical/spinous scales from posterior eye to temporal head, with superior row continuing from supraciliaries and inferior row from posteroinferior eye, both terminated on squamosal region of head.

Similar species: C. medogensis (the two species may have been confused in North-East India), C. mystaceus (Wang et al. 2024)
EtymologyNamed after Thomas Claverhill Jerdon (1811-1872), British physician, zoologist, and botanist who became an Assistant Surgeon in the East India Company.
