DistributionN Madagascar (Mahajanga Province)

Type locality: Madagascar, Mahajanga Province, Bealanana Fivondronana, Tsaratanana, Mangindrano-Maromokotro trail, Matsaborimaiky, 14°09.175’S, 48°57.431’E, 1900–2050 m elevation.
Reproductionoviparous
TypesHolotype: AMNH 152387 (RAX 5326), adult male.
DiagnosisDiagnosis: A Calumma chameleon from Mada- gascar that differs from all congeners by the combination of 14–19 gular spines; a pair of large occipital lobes that are dorsally united to each other by more than 3 mm in adult, with scales $2.5 mm diameter; and a single ossified rostral appendage projecting anterior to the mouth in the male. Calumma peltierorum is most similar to C. malthe, but can be distinguished by the number of gular spines (>13 vs. >10), the maximum diameter of occipital lobe scales (always ≥2. 5 mm vs. <2. 7 mm, and frequently <2.5 mm), and the form of the male orbital crest tubercles above eyes (always single row vs. frequently double row). [from RAXWORTHY & NUSSBAUM 2006].
CommentMay have been confused with C. malthe before and occurs sympatrically with that species at Anjanaharibe-Sud in a narrow elevational band between 1700 and 1850 m.
EtymologyNamed after the Peltier family for their support of conservation and herpetological research at the AMNH.
