Diagnosis | Diagnosis: A Calumma chameleon from Mada- gascar that differs from all congeners by the combination of 14–19 gular spines; a pair of large occipital lobes that are dorsally united to each other by more than 3 mm in adult, with scales $2.5 mm diameter; and a single ossified rostral appendage projecting anterior to the mouth in the male. Calumma peltierorum is most similar to C. malthe, but can be distinguished by the number of gular spines (>13 vs. >10), the maximum diameter of occipital lobe scales (always ≥2. 5 mm vs. <2. 7 mm, and frequently <2.5 mm), and the form of the male orbital crest tubercles above eyes (always single row vs. frequently double row). Comment | May have been confused with C. malthe before and occurs sympatrically with that species at Anjanaharibe-Sud in a narrow elevational band between 1700 and 1850 m. |
Etymology | Named after the Peltier family for their support of conservation and herpetological research at the AMNH. |
