CommentType Species: Leiolopisma greeni Rawlinson 1975 is the type species for the genus Carinascincus WELLS & WELLINGTON 1985: 24. Leiolopisma greeni Rawlinson 1975 is also the type species of the genus Niveoscincus HUTCHINSON et al. 1990.

Etymology: Niveoscincus was named after the Latin nivea, snow, and neo-Latin scincus, a skink, alluding to the cold climates inhabited by these skinks.

EtymologyThe genus Carinascincus was named after Carina Clarke, in recognition of her contribution to Scincid biology" (Wells & Wellington, 1985). Carina Jane Clarke (1941-2004) was an Australian biologist who published an early paper on the alpha systematics of the leiolopismid skinks of Australia (Clarke 1965), based on her PhD work.
