Type locality: at Lelogama, according to Smith 1927 a wooded hilly area (750 m elevation).

Comment 
EtymologyPresumably from the Latin spina (thorn) plus auris (ear), and in reference to the spinose lobules around the ear margin. "Ear-opening ….. with pointed lobules all round its border, the anterior the largest" (Smith, 1927).
