Comment | Type species: Nessia thwaitesi GÜNTHER 1872: 86 is the type species of the genus Chalcidoseps BOULENGER 1887: 423. |
Etymology | Named after George Henry Kendrick Thwaites (1811-1882), an accountant who studied botany in his spare time. From 1847 he lectured on botany at the School of Pharmacy and Bristol Medical School. The genus was named after Greek “chalkis”, a sort of bronze coloured (gr. chalkos: copper, bronze after the glossy colour), and Greek seps = (snake-like) lizard. |
