EtymologyNamed after Herbert Lang (1879-1957), a German taxidermist who worked in the Natural History Museum, Universitat Zurich, the American Museum of Natural History, and the Transvaal Museum, South Africa. He traveled widely in Africa.

C. l. occidentalis was named after Latin occidentalis = "western" and refers to its western distribution.
